Kindergarteners, Coding and Ozobots, Oh My!!
When we think of kindergarten, we think of early literacy and students learning to read and write. The kindergarteners at Chaparral Elementary are building their literacy skills in a unique way: through coding.
The students in Mrs. Montoya’s class have been working throughout the year to develop coding skills through hands-on activities. Recently they applied their understanding of coding and programing with mini robots, called the Ozobot.
By using a sequence of color codes, students give robots commands for directions, speed and cool moves. There are many benefits to teaching coding to the youngest students.
Children who learn coding and programming logic are more skilled in problem solving, have strong reasoning skills, learn cause and effect, become more inquisitive and develop a drive to construct knowledge.
