Higley Youth Sports League hosts cheer competition
Higley Youth Sports League held the second districtwide cheerleading competition Tuesday, March 1, at Higley Center for the Performing Arts.

The Higley Youth Sports League’s cheerleading program is a two-semester, after-school class offered at elementary schools through the Higley Unified School District Community Education Department. After spending the first semester learning new skills and routines, the students cheered on their individual school’s basketball teams. This was the second year of the cheerleading option and more than 100 students enrolled.

Six teams and more than 20 individuals participated in the fun-filled district competition. Family and friends filled the seats to support their young kindergarten through sixth-grade cheerleaders. Sossaman Middle School’s cheerleading squad made a special appearance, helping students enter and exit the stage and performing the finale of the show.
