On behalf of the Higley Unified School District I am excited to welcome all of our Gator families to the 2016-2017 school year.  I look forward to working with our students, their families and our community to continue to build on the tradition of excellence at GWP. Gateway strives to be an inclusive community that provides positive learning experiences for our students and engages families in their educational journey. We have assembled a tremendous staff that is dedicated to the success of our students both in their academic development as well as their personal growth. These are the traits that focus on our mission to be “the anchor of our community, empowering individuals to become innovative learners and participants in a global society.”

I am thrilled to be back for my second year at Gateway Pointe and to be working with such a tremendous team.  Our staff has been hard at work attending many workshops and trainings over the summer to be ready to best serve our students.  We will continue to utilize cooperative learning strategies at GWP built on the work of Dr. Spencer Kagan to engage all our students in learning at every opportunity.  These practices have been shown to steadily increasing students’ academic performance and to create classrooms where students are connected to learning at all ability levels.

For those of you who are new to Gateway Pointe and want to know a little about myself, I have been in education for over 16 years as a classroom teacher and administrator. I began my teaching and administrative career in the Gilbert School District before spending five years as a principal in the Washington Elementary School District in Phoenix.  This will be second year as principal at Gateway Pointe and my 11th year in administration.  I am very excited to be in Higley.

I have a wonderful family including my wife Maggie who is an instructional coach in the Tempe Union High School district and our three beautiful children; two daughters (6th and 4th grade) and a son who is two. They are the light of my life and I come to work each day advocating for the children I serve as if they were my own.

Our priority is your child and we look forward to working with you to build a partnership that allows your child to grow and an environment that is positive, supportive, challenging, and engaging.

As we embark on a new year we want to encourage our families to be involved in all that we do at Gateway Pointe. We have a strong PTO that is seeking your assistance and we welcome your support at all levels. No amount of time is too small to give and your contributions make a great impact on what we do.

I am eager to get to know all our new Gator families and would be happy to sit down with you anytime to discuss your child’s needs. The best way to make sure we can have an uninterrupted conversation about your child is to schedule an appointment with my secretary Kelly at (480) 279.7713.

Thank you for choosing Gateway Pointe and sharing your children with us. I am confident we are going to have an amazing year together!
