My name is Josh Vanderflught and I am the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Cooley. I am very excited to be a part of your child’s education and athletic experience.
The 2016-17 year is my second year as Assistant Principal/Athletic Director, and my twelfth year in education. From 2012-2015, I was the Special Education Department Head at Power Ranch Elementary. In this role I worked closely with parents, students, and staff members to develop and implement educational and behavioral interventions to meet the needs of students with IEPs. I also completed my administrative internship at Power Ranch. During this time, I participated in many leadership duties on campus, including developing the Emergency Response Plan and leading the safety committee. Prior to that, I taught in southern Iowa for eight years in Special Education and as a fifth grade classroom teacher. I also served as the Elementary Dean of Students my final year in Iowa, acting as the on-site administrator.
In addition to my teaching experience, I have a great deal of experience with athletics. In Iowa, I was a varsity softball and cross country coach for six years. As a varsity coach, I managed my team account, organized fundraisers, and scheduled/managed tournaments. I also have experience coaching high school baseball, middle school softball, middle school volleyball, and middle school basketball. I am extremely excited to help build a successful athletic program at Cooley.
It is an honor to serve as the Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Cooley. I anticipate a highly successful year in all aspects. If there is anything that I can do to make your experience at Cooley better, please let me know.
