Mrs. Laura Walsh
My name is Laura Walsh, and I am the Homeless Liaison for the Higley Unified School District. The program I run is called "Students in Transition," or SIT for short. As the liaison, it is my duty to identify students whose living situation is homeless or transitional and provide them with services as required by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
I'm an Arizona Native and product of the Mesa Public School System. Although I have spent most of my years in Mesa, I did get to live in Florida for 7 months, and currently reside in Queen Creek with my wonderful husband, Rob and our 5 furbabies. I am a photographer, crafter and enjoy refurbishing old junk into new treasures. My husband and I love nature, and often seek little out-of-the-way places to explore; in fact, we got married at one of our favorite spots near a bend of the Salt River. Other beloved places to frequent include the Tonto National Forest, the Boyce Thompson Arboretum and the Phoenix Zoo. Although we appreciate getting off the grid, we mostly enjoy staying home and spending time with each other, our family and friends.
I've had the pleasure of working for Higley in the SIT program since 2012; beginning as the program's Family Coordinator. In September 2015, I became the Homeless Liaison. I absolutely love what I do and the terrific families I work for. Please check out the rest of the SIT site; you're sure to find several valuable resources for you and anyone who can benefit from this information.
